Karijini and the Canning Stock Route

From May 10th through till the 22nd 2001, a group of friends (Mick, Tracy, Mark, Dan and Greg) travelled up past Mt Newman for 5 days of walking and tubing through the gorges of Karijini National Park. They then headed North East, into the remote outback to join up with the Canning Stock Route on an epic trip south through the Gibson Desert and the little Sandy Desert, past Lake Disappointment to Wiluna and then finally back home to Perth. At the last minute I had to pull out (Martin), but they took my Terrano II 4WD and had an interesting time travelling through some of the harshest terrain in Australia.

My mud-covered Terrano II again (not as dirty as we got it on the Queensland trip though!)

The Toll: The bullbar fell off, 2 smashed side mirros, smashed rear window, bolts fell out of the upper front suspension swing arm etc. Only 1 puncture though!

Greg's Landcruiser

Greg's Score: 10 punctures, side wall damage and blow-outs and a snapped steering shaft. The guys managed to weld the shaft back together using three car batteries in series, a welding rod and a very dark pair of sunnies!

Nice grotto shot Mark!
Now, where's that camel?... Dan and Mick on Dan's motorbike.
That's a funny angle for the front wheel?!

- The 2 bolts holding the front top suspension arm fell off so needed a bit of bush ingenuity to fix.

Now that has to be one of the most remote Public telephone boxes in the world. Not surprisingly it is solar powered.
A humorous touch along the Canning Stock Route. Notice the bullbar of the Terra is on the roof. Not a good welding job from the bullbar factory!
Roo steak anyone? Or is that Camel?!
Hey that doesn't look like the middle of the outback to me. Mark, have you been sneaking some of your other piccies in on the sly again? (SugarLoaf Rock)
The guys insist that Greg wanted to try out the winch on his Lancruiser - I certainly hope so as that's a pretty small sand dune for my Terrano to have been bogged on!

Well 8 on the CSR
That's another lovely piece of photography Mark - perfect for a Desktop picture. :-)

Telfer mine.
