S.U. Sailing Camp

Every year for the last several decades the Scripture Union Sailing Camp has been run down at Camp Geographe, Geographe Bay outside Busselton.  I've  been a camper and leader about half a dozen times over the last 10 years or more.  The camp runs for 10 days during early January and caters to 50 campers in the Year 10 to 12 age bracket.  The Camp boasts a fleet of over 25 yachts including 2-man DeHavilland Vagabonds, 3-man DeHavilland Corsairs, a variety of catamarans including 14ft Hobbie cats and Windrushs, as well as a large three-man Tornado (?) and the odd Cruiser.

The camp is ably supported by 4 radio-linked Rescue boats and a fully equipped Race Control.

Capsizing  is a popular part of camp.

The Cruiser and a Corsair playing at tactics.

One of the Cruiser's crew - Steve working hard... :-)

John Chow showing how to fly the trapeze on a Corsair.

Mal Rogers off to the rescue in one of the four Rescue boats.

Race Control - Home of loud bangs and flashing lights!

The Famous Ship's Dinner - staged on the last night with all the leaders waiting on the
Campers tables is always a huge success.  With a roast dinner, various acts between
each course, spinnakers hanging from the ceiling and candle-light to give just the right
ambience, it's one thing that sets this camp apart from others.
